| Project Description: | This is a methodological study, designed to measure the effects of survey presentation on nonresponse and measurement error. Using a list sample of registered voters in Maryland, the goal is to complete 200 interviews with people who voted in the 2004 general election and 200 with people who didn't. Half of the selected respondents receive a prenotification letter describing this as a survey of health and lifestyles, while the other half receives a letter describing it as a study of politics, elections, and voting. Also, half of each group receives a $5 bill with the letter, while the other half gets no monetary incentive. When interviewers call, they must constrain their descriptions of the survey to the type of description that the respondent received in the letter. |
